The Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) issued a total of 201 new drilling permits during the week of April 14–April 21, 2026, signaling continued activity across the state's oil and gas plays. Midland County led the pack with 30 permits, followed by Upton County with 22 permits and Reeves County with 15. Martin County saw 14 permits issued, and Karnes County rounded out the top five with 13 permits. This distribution highlights continued interest in the Permian Basin, with significant activity also noted in South Texas.
Diamondback E&P LLC was the most active operator, securing 41 permits. COG Operating LLC followed with 17 permits, while DE Central Operating, LLC obtained 11. Triple Crown Resources, LLC and Anadarko E&P Onshore LLC were also prominent, with 9 and 8 permits, respectively.
Several permits were flagged as high-priority this week. These include Permit #914823 issued to SHELBY OPERATING COMPANY in Harrison County, and two permits issued to FASKEN OIL AND RANCH, LTD. in Andrews County: Permit #914796 and #914798. DIAMONDBACK E&P LLC also received two high-priority permits in Midland County: Permit #914783 and #914784. The estimated spud dates for these permits are yet to be determined.
WTI crude closed at $86.46/bbl, down $8.23 compared to the prior close, which may influence future drilling plans.
