Texas Drilling Permits: Week of May 01–May 08, 2026 — RRC Activity Report

The Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) issued 100 new drilling permits across the state during the week of May 01–May 08, 2026. This report provides a snapshot of the week's activity, highlighting key counties, operators, and notable permit filings.

Upton County led the pack with 12 permits, followed by Reeves County with 11. San Augustine, Midland, and Howard counties each saw 7 permits issued. This distribution reflects ongoing activity in established plays and potential emerging areas.

Several operators demonstrated significant activity during the week. PETROPLEX ENERGY INC., DISCOVERY OPERATING, INC., CIVITAS PERMIAN OPERATING, LLC, and APEX NATURAL GAS, LLC each secured 7 permits. KINDER MORGAN PRODUCTION CO LLC followed closely with 6 permits.

Several high-priority permits were filed this week. Permit #915298, filed by PERMIAN DEEP ROCK OIL CO., LLC in Midland County, and Permit #915316, filed by COMSTOCK OIL & GAS, LLC in Freestone County, are among those to watch. Additionally, BPX OPERATING COMPANY filed Permit #915301 in Loving County. FIREBIRD ENERGY II LLC filed two permits in Midland County, #890593 and #890592.
