Texas Drilling Permits: Week of May 18–May 25, 2026 — RRC Activity Report

The Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) issued a total of 126 new drilling permits during the week of May 18–May 25, 2026. This report provides a snapshot of the week's activity, highlighting key counties, operators, and notable permit filings.

Midland County led the pack with 25 permits, demonstrating continued strong activity in the Permian Basin. Following Midland, Pecos County saw 11 permits issued, while Loving County received 9. Upton County and Martin County rounded out the top counties, with 8 and 7 permits, respectively.

Diamondback E&P LLC secured the most permits during the week, with 17 filings. Pioneer Natural Res. USA, Inc. followed with 9 permits, and Kinder Morgan Production Co LLC and Apache Corporation each obtained 8 permits. Tidal Petroleum, Inc. secured 5 permits.

This week’s highest-priority permits, based on RRC scoring, included filings from Walker Operating Company in Trinity County, FW Eagle Ford I, LLC in Lavaca County, and Montare Operating, Ltd. in Wood County. PDEH LLC had two high-priority permits in Loving County. Estimated spud dates for these permits are yet to be determined.

WTI crude oil prices closed at $96.6/bbl, reflecting a decrease of $11.17 compared to the prior close.
