Texas Drilling Permits: Week of October 06–October 13, 2026 — RRC Activity Report
The Texas Railroad Commission recorded 121 new drilling permits for the week of October 06–October 13, 2026, reflecting continued steady activity across the state's core producing basins. The Permian Basin remained the dominant driver of new permit filings, accounting for 60 of the week's total, roughly half of all statewide activity. This sustained pace comes as WTI crude settled at $92.54 per barrel, up $1.05 from the prior close, giving operators continued price support for new drilling commitments.
Lea County led all counties with 44 new permits, far outpacing the next closest county. Eddy County followed with 16 permits, and Glasscock County posted 14, underscoring the continued concentration of permitting activity in the Delaware and Midland sub-basins. Live Oak County recorded 7 permits, while Webb County added 4, pointing to ongoing interest in South Texas acreage alongside the Permian-heavy week.
On the operator side, EOG Resources Inc. was the most active filer with 27 permits, more than double the next-highest operator. Diamondback E&P LLC followed with 12 permits, and Mewbourne Oil Co. filed 11. Spur Energy Partners LLC added 6 permits, and Coterra Energy Operating Co. rounded out the top five with 5. The spread between these operators suggests both large-scale Permian development programs and targeted regional drilling campaigns are moving forward in parallel.
Among the week's permits, several filings stood out for their priority scoring and operator profile, even though spud dates remain unconfirmed. Adamas Energy LLC filed two permits in Nacogdoches County (#918274 and #918275), while Mewbourne Oil Company filed two in Ward County (#919154 and #919155). Stroud Petroleum, Inc. also filed a notable permit in Rusk County (#919160). While these permits currently carry a priority score of 0 and no confirmed spud timing, they're worth tracking as operators finalize development plans in the coming weeks.
For land teams, service providers, and E&P professionals trying to stay ahead of drilling activity, weekly permit data offers an early signal of where capital and rigs are headed next. Monitoring county-level trends, like the concentration in Lea and Eddy counties, alongside operator filing patterns from companies like EOG Resources and Diamondback E&P, can help inform acreage strategy, service line planning, and competitive intelligence.
DownHole Digital monitors Texas RRC permit filings in real time, helping oilfield professionals track new activity by county, operator, and basin as soon as it's filed. With crude prices holding above $92/bbl, permit activity across the Permian and surrounding basins will remain a key indicator to watch heading into Q4.
